Many occupations run a high risk of their employees suffering from knee injuries. In many cases, minor knee pain and injures can be relieved with self-care measures, physical therapy, and knee braces. However, in some cases surgery or more serious medical care is required. In any situation, employers should be providing tools and safety measures to prevent such injures from occurring.

Common Work-Related Knee Injuries

According to an article on knee pain by the Mayo Clinic, some common knee injuries include:

  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injuries: Commonly caused by a twisting of the knee with pressure.
  • Bone Fractures: Commonly cause by slips or falls.
  • Torn Meniscus: Commonly caused by a twisting of the knee with pressure.
  • Knee Bursitis: Painful inflammation commonly caused by repetitive stress on the knee joint.
  • Patellar Tendinitis: Painful inflammation commonly caused by repetitive stress on the knee joint.
  • Various Types of Arthritis: Usually a chronic condition caused by wear and tear in the knee joint.
  • Mechanical Problems: Knee pain or injury causing trouble or prevention of movement in the knee joint or pain in the hips and feet. Can be caused by a variety of factors.

Although these and many other knee injuries can occur in any workplace setting, occupations that require repetitive stress on the knees such as construction workers, professional athletes, nursing and hospital staff, etc. are at a greater risk for experiencing them.

Think You Have a Work-Related Knee Injury?

No matter your occupation, if you think you have suffered a knee injury from work report it to your employer and get medical care. Some knee injuries occur slowly over time, so if you have a persistent pain or stiffness in a knee, visit a doctor. Workers’ Compensation coverage should come in to play with these injuries. Working with an attorney may help you to get the benefits you’re due while protecting your rights.
