Is desk work causing your neck pain?

On Behalf of | Dec 8, 2022 | Injury Prevention

Many people think that desk work is safe for workers, but this isn’t always the case. There are some injuries that these workers may suffer. One of these is a neck injury.

Most of the day, people who work at a computer often look down to see the screen. When someone’s head is bent down, its weight puts pressure on that person’s neck. This can cause cumulative damage to the structures in the neck.

What are the symptoms of a neck injury?

Many people think that some neck pain is normal, but that’s not the case. Discomfort and pain may be progressively worse because the injury is continually worsening until it’s undeniable that something is wrong. The best thing for workers to do is to have an evaluation done as soon as possible when they notice neck pain, discomfort or lack of range of motion.

How can neck injuries be prevented?

One of the best ways to prevent a neck injury is to lift the computer screen so the worker doesn’t have to look down to see it. Keeping the head level takes a lot of the stress off the neck, which can prevent cumulative trauma injuries.

Any worker who suffers an injury at work should get proper medical care for their condition right away. Workers’ compensation should cover the costs of this. If you’ve been injured at work, whether you have a desk job or not, you have a right to seek benefits. Experienced legal guidance can make the whole process easier.
